Reiki - Path to Inner Balance
Reiki, a spiritual discipline originating from Japan, has been practiced in the West since the 1940s. Upon its introduction to Western cultures, Reiki often became associated with the chakra system, focusing more on hands-on application rather than its traditional spiritual practice. This adaptation highlights the flexibility and universality of Reiki, allowing it to serve as a bridge between Eastern and Western healing philosophies.
Recognized by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) at the National Institutes of Health, Reiki is seen as a practice that interacts with the body's energy fields, or biofields, promoting holistic health. In Eastern philosophy, balanced life force energy is essential for the health of both body and mind. Stress can disrupt this balance, leading to emotional and physical symptoms.
Reiki expert Pamela Miles notes, "Reiki has the potential to rebalance the biofield at the deepest vibrational level, addressing the subtle causes of illness and enhancing overall resilience.
"Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) works alongside Western medicine by providing relief for disorders with somatic and/or subjectively experienced symptoms, such as pain, anxiety, and stress—factors that often diminish quality of life. Ongoing studies show that Reiki can decrease heart and respiration rates, increase parasympathetic activity (“rest and digest”), and measurably reduce anxiety.
One of Reiki's beauties is its accessibility—you can receive sessions from a trained professional or become initiated into the practice to perform Reiki on yourself. The deep relaxation experienced during a Reiki session can soothe an agitated nervous system and mind, making Reiki a valuable resource for enhancing your quality of life.
In my years of practicing Reiki, I've found its ability to invoke a sense of centering and calm invaluable, especially in managing emotional and mental overload.
